Zimbabwe have shocked World Cup finalists New Zealand, chasing down 300 in Harare.
Craig Ervine scored 130*off 108 balls (11 fours, five sixes) as Zimbabwe (3/304) won by seven wickets with an over to spare. Zimbabwe had an opening stand of 74 between Hamilton Masakadza (84) and Chamu Chibhabha (42). Ervine joined Masakadza for another 120 runs and 66 for the third wicket with captain Elton Chigumbura (26). Nathan McCullum (3/62 off nine overs) was New Zealand’s only wicket-taker.
The Black Caps looked comfortable after making 4/303. Ross Taylor (112* of 122 balls) scored a century and compiled 137 for the third wicket with captain Kane Williamson (97). Tinashe Panyangara (2/50) was Zimbabwe’s best bowler.
The second and third games will be played in Harare on the 4th of 7th of August respectively. A one-off Twenty20 will be played on August 9.
